The player protection initiative 1xCare has entered into a Memorandum of Partnership with Spain's Federación Española de Jugadores de Azar Rehabilitados (FEJAR). The agreement is focused on preventing and reducing gambling-related harm, improving access to support, and advancing responsible gambling education and evidence-based practice. The collaboration falls under 1xCare's Support and Well-Being pillar. As an initial step, the two organizations will explore ways to support and strengthen access to FEJAR's online therapy and support services.

The partnership is designed with a strong emphasis on independence and safeguarding. FEJAR, a non-profit founded in 1991 that brings together regional associations focused on gambling addiction, retains full responsibility for its professional methods, therapeutic processes, and decisions concerning individual beneficiaries. Support provided through the partnership will not be conditional on endorsing any commercial product or operator, will not be used for marketing, and will not give 1xCare or any donor access to beneficiaries or influence over individual care. Beneficiary confidentiality and data protection will be preserved in line with the General Data Protection Regulation.

"Responsible gambling is a commitment; it is non-negotiable and sits at the centre of everything we do," said Simon Westbury, chairperson of 1xCare. "This partnership is built on independence and respect for FEJAR's expertise. Our role is to help strengthen access to support for people affected by gambling-related harm, not to direct how that support is delivered."

Gerardo Rodriguez Velo, president of FEJAR, said the partnership aligns with the federation's core beliefs. "At FEJAR, we believe that preventing gambling-related harm requires a strong commitment to prevention, accessible support, and the well-being of affected individuals and their families," Rodriguez Velo commented. "This partnership offers an opportunity to explore ways to strengthen access to support services, while safeguarding FEJAR's professional independence and ensuring that the needs of beneficiaries remain at the centre of our work." The memorandum provides a framework for cooperation, but any specific initiative involving funding, defined services, or the processing of personal data will require a separate written agreement. Such agreements will be subject to proportionate due diligence and each organization's governance procedures. The partnership is non-exclusive, and both 1xCare and FEJAR remain independent entities. 1xCare, launched in June 2026 as the player protection initiative of 1xBet, was established to consolidate work in research, education, technology, and player well-being under one framework.

Westbury added that 1xCare is focused on achieving tangible results. "1xCare is focused on demonstrable and meaningful change across all the responsible player protection touchpoints," he said. "We look forward to working alongside FEJAR and other organisations that share the goal of better protecting players." The initial cooperation will specifically aim to help people who face geographical or other barriers to accessing in-person assistance for gambling-related problems.
